Trumps Host Annual Easter Egg Roll

WASHINGTON – With overcast skies and temperatures in the 1940s, President Donald Trump declared it was “perfect weather” Monday for the White House’s annual Easter egg celebration. Nearly 30,000 parents and children were expected to attend the event all day.

Morning rain softened the festivities, but the sky cleared mostly, though they remained chilled as Trump and his wife Melania descended the stairs from the blue room’s porch to join guests in the south lawn.

“You know, it was supposed to be pouring, the weather. It was supposed to be very rainy and nasty and cold and windy,” said Trump, who appeared in an overcoat on the porch with his wife and the Easter Bunny. “And look what we have: perfect weather. Perfect weather. Beautiful weather.”

Mrs Trump, who wore boots and a knee-length jacket after attending a sleeveless one last year, said it was a “beautiful day” but “a little cold.”

During brief comments from the balcony, Trump thanked her for doing “an amazing job” at the event. He also said good words about the economy and praised the recent $ 700 billion increase in military funding.

“This is a special year. Our country is very successful,” Trump said. “Nothing’s ever easy, but we’ve never had an economy like we currently have. And we’re going to make it bigger and stronger and stronger.”

He helped kick some egg rolling games with “ready”, “set” and a whistle blow.

“Are you ready, kids?” Said the president as he and the First Lady blew whistles that laid a group of children scattering and using wooden spoons to guide painted eggs, boiling on part of the sloping south lawn. They blew the whistles several times before moving to a ticket making station for U.S. forces.

The egg roll was also a Trump family affair, with most of the president’s five children and nine grandchildren present, including Donald Trump Jr., his wife, Vanessa, and their five children; Son Eric, his wife, Lara, and their baby; Daughter Tiffany and son Baron.

In all, the White House said it expects nearly 30,000 adults and children to flow through the gates. Thousands of volunteers worked over the weekend to help set things up and Monday to help with the queue movement.

The first lady made her mark on the event by adding a lawn bowling to the list of activities.
